“Lamentation”, walnut wood sculpture, by Lorenzo di Pietro known as il Vecchietta, 1445. Characteristic of this work is the serpent crushed by the feet of the dead Christ, a clear allusion to the Redemption from the original sin thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus.
