Umbria
The heart of Italy is Umbria, a region blessed by a fertile countryside which is sweetened by ancient villages and cities such as Ceralto, Bevagna, Todi, Assisi, Città della Pieve. Umbriais the cradle of an artistic and artisan heritage of great importance. Assisi, the city of St. Francis, stands out for its importance with the Basilica dedicated to the saint, a monument which preserves the works realised by masters as Giotto, Cimabue, Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti. In Assisi the tradition of the crib is also deeply felt, because the first commemoration of the birth of Christ is attributed to St. Francis. Deruta, on the other hand, is famous for the handcrafted production of ceramics, to which a museum is dedicated.
