Mattia Preti
Mattia Preti, known as the Cavalier Calabrese, was born in Taverna, in Calabria, on February 25, 1613 from Cesare and Innocenza Schipano, belonging to the class of "honored" families of the region. He was one of the main exponents of the mature season of the Italian Baroque and, more particularly, of Caravaggism and seventeenth-century Neapolitan painting.
