Siena, Piccolomini Library: Illuminated Manuscripts
The Library of the Cathedral of Siena, which is dedicated to Enea Silvio Piccolomini, preserves splendid codes, which constitute a corpus of great importance for the history of Italian Renaissance miniature. It is a collection of choirbooks and antiphonaries decorated not only by Siena artists such as Sano di Pietro, Pellegrino di Mariano, Guidoccio Cozzarelli but also by famous artists who worked in the North and were invited to Siena towards the end of the sixties of the fifteenth century. Among these, the names of Girolamo da Cremona and Liberale da Verona stand out.
