Spoleto
The masterpieces of the Duomo or Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. On the facade, a Byzantine mosaic and five rose windows. Inside, the cycle of the XV century frescoes in the apse basin on the Stories of the Virgin by Filippo Lippi and those by Pinturicchio in the chapel of Bishop Eroli.
The Bishop's Palace houses the Diocesan Museum with a collection of paintings from 1200 to 1900 (Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi, etc.) and sculptures (Romanesque wooden groups, the bronze bust of Urban VIII by Bernini). The Roman house, which dates back to the 1st century AD, has mosaic floors in excellent condition.
The Church of St Peter is known for the high reliefs of the facade with episodes from the life of St. Peter and others with a moralistic intent that refer to the novellistics of the Middle Ages. Rocca Albornoz overlooks Spoleto and the Tower Bridge. The fortress, built between 1363 and 1367, now houses the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto which includes the Camera Picta, decorated between 1392 and 1400 with frescoes whose themes of courtly love were inspired by Breton and Provençal poems.
