Frescoes of the Venetian Villas
In Veneto there are a lot of country residences. Villa Porto Colleoni, or the Castle of Thiene, is famous for the Camerone del Camino, frescoed by G.A. Fasolo and G.B. Zelotti, whose themes refer to episodes of ancient Rome: The meeting between Massinissa and Sofonisba, Porsenna and Muzio Scevola, The Banquet of Cleopatra and The Clemency of Scipio.
Villa Emo, built in 1558-59 near Fanzolo on a project by Palladio, preserves frescoes by G.B. Zelotti. In the large central hall of Villa Caldogno the frescoes represent typical moments of the life of the aristocrats in these villas of delights: the game of cards, concerts, dances, the pleasure of food. In other rooms Fasolo and Zelotti chose historical themes.
